The Chockaminds ice hockey workshop is something special, if you’ve ever thought about giving it a go, this is the chance for you to get slipping and sliding with like minded people. This workshop is based on complete beginners and intermediates. if you’ve skated a small amount or never been on the ice before you wont regret it and will be catered to your level. Taking you through step by step how to ice skate all the way through to learning the fundamentals of ice hockey.

This workshop is designed for beginners and intermediates who want to push themselves into the unknown. Learning new skills and reaching new targets, based upon group orientated sessions whilst encouraging everyone to individually push themselves and those around you. The sessions are set up to cater for all beginner and intermediate levels, from those just finding their feet through to those who are looking to lock in the fundamentals and move up to a more advanced level. The workshop is built around three phases with each session building on the skills and lessons from the previous weeks.

Workshop Structure

Weeks 1 - 10 

Levelling up on on your skating skills, from beginner - intermediate. A focus on   skating, stopping and edge work. For intermediate level we'll be running through the fundamentals of skating albeit a focus on generating more speed, power, faster starters and crossovers whilst combining edge work with puck control. These drills will be accomodating for all levels and abilities.

Weeks 11 - 14

Puck work and stick handling. We’ll take you through a number of different drills to enhance your current skills and give you the edge when in pressured situations on the ice. We'll introduce beginners to the fundamentals of stick handling, how to move the puck and transfer these newly found skills in to basic game situations.

Week 15 - 18

Breaking down the fundamentals of shooting, the different types of shots we can choose from in a game situation combined with taking a shot whilst skating. Using your body to generate power in a shot can be a huge strength, we’ll guide you through the basic body position, how to aim and generate power every time you shoot on net. We'll take Intermediate level skaters through game situations , shooting drills, defensive and offensive break outs and how to make that winning shot. 

Workshop Details

Sessions are held 6:30pm Monday evenings and run for 1 hour

Basic Ice Hockey equipment is required - basic kit includes helmet, skates, stick, shoulder pads, pants, gloves, elbow pads and shins. Ideally you will have all gear, if not wear what your comfortable with. Skates, sticks and gloves will be rentable from the rink if needed.

 

If you don’t have any gear and want to participate touch base with the team and we will see how we can help out. We have a small amount of spare kit available for short term use (6-8 weeks) for people who want to get on the ice but you will need to source your own kit in the long term. The spare kit we have is available on a first come, first served basis.

 

Note: We recommend looking on local community Facebook pages/marketplace to try and source some gear of your own to get you going.

Workshop is based on a minimum of 20 people. If the workshop is not held a full refund will be issued.

Workshop commences 24th April, 2023. (Date subject to change based on venue) 

Workshop is held at the Queenstown Ice Rink located in the Queenstown Gardens
